Announcing Missional & Contemplative Online New Monastic Communities Learning Events March to May 2025
Opportunities to explore an intro learning experience and going deeper
I am writing to let people know widely of a number online learning events to explore forms of missional and contemplative new monastic communities facilitated by myself and my good friend Mark Berry. We have both been formed by being part of new monastic communities - Mark by a core Celtic Christian spirituality as a basis, and I through a fusion of Benedictine, Franciscan, Ignatian and Carmelite spirituality. So it is good because we come form quite different places and experiences adding to the value of these sessions.
An Introduction to Missional and Contemplative New Monastic Communities
This is a 4 session learning event to explore the basis, values and relevance of missional and contemplative New Monastic Communities. I lead this on myself, where there is time for exploring, group discussions and always downloadable handouts. This has been a successful course now run with over 500 attenders from around the world. I continue to offer this as New Monasticism as a form of missional and contemplative ecclesial community has much to offer the increasing brokenness and uncertainty of the world. This is being offered in sessions:
Starting & Sustaining Missional and Contemplative New Monastic Communities
This is again a 4 session learning event for those who are want to start or who have started some form of new monastic community initiative. This is led by Mark Berry and Ian Mobsby that includes learning, interviews with leaders of different new monastic communities and group work. So far Mark and I have supported over 300 people in this learning event, and we continue to offer this as we both really care about the importance of this form of Christian ecclesial community and the importance of it in our challenging times. At the moment this is offered only in UK time. Again handouts are provided and downloadable for this learning event.
UK: starting May Mondays 7 to 9pm UK time
Recommended Books
To accompany the course are a number of books including ‘A New Monastic Handbook’ that Mark Berry and I wrote together. See this and other relevant books check out my personal website books section here.
